LARGO, FLORIDA – An AQUALOOP greywater treatment system was recently selected by Roers Companies for its 184-unit Revel apartment complex in Largo, Florida. Ecovie Water Management, LLC worked with owner Roers Companies and the Revel design and construction team to integrate onsite greywater treatment into the building design and qualify for a 35% density bonus. Revel will use greywater collected and treated onsite to flush toilets in all 184 units. Revel is currently under construction.
Onsite greywater recycling reduces a project’s demand for city drinking water as well as outgoing volumes to wastewater treatment.
“Revel’s onsite greywater recycling is a smarter use of water that has a role to play in addressing Florida’s demand for more housing,” noted Roers Cos. Executive Vice President Shane LaFave.
Going into effect in early 2023, Florida Statute 403.892 created a density bonus for housing projects with a qualified system for greywater treatment and reuse. The goal is to reduce the water footprint of new housing. The net effect is a reduction per capita of stress on Florida’s waterways including estuaries, the Everglades, and Gulf and Atlantic coastal areas such as Biscayne Bay in Miami and Tampa Bay. This smart growth measure provides a financial incentive to developers by allowing additional units to be built on qualified projects.
For Revel, the design team selected and permitted an NSF 350(C) certified AQUALOOP 2XGW5400L pre-assembled and packaged system to treat an average of 2,857 gallons per day. In Florida, NSF 350(C) certification is required for commercial greywater systems where the end use is toilet flushing.
